ROMANIA PROGRAMMING CONTEST

The Romania Programming Contest is a two-stage competition which decides the qualification for all the Romanian teams to the ACM ICPC Southeastern European Regional Contest.

The first stage was held locally, during April, May and early June 2016, at several sites, corresponding to 4 different geographical subregions: Bucharest subregion, Cluj subregion, Iasi subregion and Timisoara subregion. Each university registered all of its participating students in the ICPC registration system, at the site corresponding to its closest geographical subregion and some of the Universities organized preliminary try-outs to select their participants.

There were participants in:

- 54 teams in the Bucharest subregion

- 19 teams in the Iasi subregion

- 16 teams in the Cluj subregion

- 17 teams in the Timisoara subregion

Each of the resulting three sites had its own set of problems to be solved by the students during the four hours and a half of the contest.

The top teams of each participating university advanced to the second stage of the contest, with the condition that they solved at least one problem at the first stage.

The second stage was held multi-site on June 16th, 2016, on the Online Judge System, maintained by the Tianjin University, which supports contests based on ICPC rules. The Online Judge System platform aggregates several online judges and allows implementations in C, C++ and Java.

There were participants from 11 Universities, from 7 cities all around the country (Iasi, Cluj, Timisoara, Targu Mures, Sibiu, Craiova and Bucharest). There were also guest teams from Moldova and Ukraine, making the competition even more interesting.

There were 11 problems proposed for being resolved during the five hours of the contest. First place in the Romania Programming Contest was awarded to team "UNIBUC Harsan Bicsi Baltatu" from University of Bucharest , with 10 problems solved and a penalty of 1371.

Every participating university was granted at least one team slot in the ACM ICPC Southeastern European Regional Contest, provided that its teams solved at least one problem and it had at least 10 registered teams.

Additional team slots to the ACM ICPC Southeastern European Regional Contest were granted based on results of its teams obtained at the second stage of the Romania Programming Contest, number of students registered by the university at the first stage and results of the university's teams at the previous ACM ICPC Southeastern European Regional Contests and ACM ICPC World Finals in previous years.

A total of 23 team slots to the ACM ICPC Southeastern European Regional Contest were granted to Romanian Universities.

All the registered students receive free 1 year ACM Student membership.

The 129 teams registered in the first stage, part of which participated in the second stage as well, totalled over 400 participants (including coaches, reserves and guests).
